David Barista

“I grew up a huge sports fan because it was one of my favorite ways to connect with my family and friends. I enjoy being part of a community that revels in the entertainment of sports, and I admire the beauty, grace, and spectacle of athletic movement on display. When I use sports as a subject for my work, I juxtapose different motifs in hopes of encoding, decoding, and then discovering meaning and knowledge about myself and the world. I can think poetically and express something personal while simultaneously making reference to images that can be enjoyed, understood, and appreciated universally.”

David Barista is an artist from Palos Heights, IL. Barista graduated from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago with a BFA with an emphasis in art education. Barista works in a variety of media including painting, drawing, collage, printmaking, and sculpture. Barista’s artwork depicts images from popular culture and daily life with the aim and intention to celebrate and chronicle shared experiences.
