Fiber Arts 2007 - a contemporary fiber art expo

A celebration of the American tradtioin of originality and craftsmanship in the fine art of fibers, quilting, weavings, and needlework. Artists are invited to share in this annual exhibition.

Eligibility
Open to all artists over 18 years. Entries must be of original design (no commercial patterns used), and created by submitting artists. Work must be executed within the last two years.

Media/Size
All contemporary artwork accepted with the principal medium being of fiber content (cloth, threads, yarn, hand-made paper, etc.). Media other than fiber may be incorporated, but the focus must be on fiber. Wall-hung work must not exceed 60 inches wide or 96 inches high. 3-D work must fit on a 24 inch by 24 inch pedistal. Wall hangings or 3-D artwork must be ready to hand or ready for exhibit with appropriate hangingn materials (including dowels and screw-eyes). Any accessories needed for display must be included. Pedestals provided by the gallery. The gallery reserves the right to install accepted works in a manner deemed necessary for exhibition and/or security reasons.

Entry Procedures & Fees
Artwork is juried by slide or photograph. $30 for up to 3 slides/photos. Fee waived for Gallery 510 members. Slides/photos of accepted works will become part of the Gallery's permanent collection.

Young Artists' Showcase

Competition is open to 5th graders through 8th graders from Macon County and surrounding areas. Students should start creating their masterpieces for the 2006 Young Artists' Showcase. Original Artwork * created during the last year is eligible. Matting and framing is not required and will not be considered in the judging but will be accepted. We encourage creativity in all mediums (painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, photography, or mixed media). Compositions must be that of the artist. No copies from another artist will be accepted. Only one entry per student. Judges will look for technical competence and craftsmanship in the medium chosen while looking for personal style and expression of ideas, thoughts, or concepts. Approximately 50 pieces of artwork will be chosen to be exhibited. Notifications of acceptance in the show will be mailed early December. Best of Show and other awards will be recodgnized for 5th/6th grades and 7th/8th grades separately.

Artwork without this may be disqualified.

The exhibition will take place January 2007 at the Madden Arts Center. The Award Ceremony will take place on January 5th, Saturday, at 2 p.m. . The event is open to the public, however, an invitation will be sent to the exhibiting artists, parents, and teachers. A student's work will be chosen for the invitation. The artwork will remain on display through January 30th during regular library hours. Following the show the artwork should be picked up at Gallery 510 no later than February 28. Gallery 510 cannot be responsible for work left after February 28.

* ORIGINAL: No work that has ben directly copied from any published source may be entered unless the student has significantly and creatively modified or reinterpreted the original work. Copying from a photograph and rendering into another medium is NOT permitted unless the student has taken the photograph and had a creative input into the photographic image/composition.

SPRING EXHIBITION
Schools within a 50 mile radius of Hickory Point Mall will showcase the art created in their schools. The show is a juried competition with prize ribbons.
Hang 4 to 7 p.m. on April 29
Show will be up April 30 through May 7, 2008
May 4 ceremony, 2 p.m.
Take down artwork 4 to 7 p.m. on May 7th.

  • Commercial - hand done work (no computers), calligraphy, silk-screen prints
RULES
  • Limit of 30 entries per school
  • Entry fee of $30 per school, payable to "Gallery 510"
  • No works larger than 36" in any direction
  • Each school is responsible for their own display area
  • Set up is Tuesday, May 1 st from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.
  • Take down is May 9 after 4 p.m. 
  • Each school is to prepare an information flyer about their art program to accompany display
